Claude shared this strategy in their LinkedIn post in April 2026, and it was interesting to see how this strategy has been changning the way I do my work. Here is the link to the post:
The caption is:
” We’re bringing the advisor strategy to the Claude Platform.
Pair Opus as an advisor with Sonnet or Haiku as an executor, and your agents can consult Opus mid-task when they hit a hard decision. Opus returns a plan and the executor keeps running, all inside a single API request.
This brings near Opus-level intelligence to your agents while keeping costs near Sonnet levels.
In our evals, Sonnet with an Opus advisor scored 2.7 percentage points higher on SWE-bench Multilingual than Sonnet alone, while costing 11.9% less per task.”

This has been my go-to strategy using cursor. For planning, Opus does a great job, covering edge cases and even going beyond what my initial prompt was to ensure the plan covers everything needed for that specific task!
This saved me so much in terms of token consumption, as the plan was detailed enough that a cheap (fast) model could handle the execution easily!
